Father’s Day gift guide for the tech-loving dad

Father’s Day is around the corner and we thought we’d put together a gift guide of great products to get your techy dad this year. These are also some great gifts for non-techy dads! Let’s take a look at the products we chose for the list.

DJI Mavic Mini

The much anticipated DJI Mavic Mini removes a few features that are found on the current DJI drones – pointing to an entry-level DJI Spark replacement. The DJI Mavic Mini has been able to keep and improves on previous features. Is it enough to make the DJI Mavic Mini a drone worth buying?

Here are the main features you should know about before purchasing the new DJI Mavic Mini. The DJI Mavic Mini forgoes a 4k camera for a 2.7k camera, the usual smart flight modes (no panoramic photos), not to mention the classic DJI Mavic look all coming in at 249 grams! Great for the US and Australia’s new drone laws when they come into play soon.

You can get the new DJI Mavic Mini from the DJI store for $399 (AUD$599) and the DJI Mavic Mini fly more combo can be picked up for $499 (AUD$799). The fly more combo adds a carrying case, propeller guards, spare propellers, extra batteries, and a battery charger capable of charging 3 batteries at once.

Skullcandy Indy Evo

The Skullcandy Indy Evo has a battery life of six hours and can be charged with the case proving them with 24 more hours of playtime. In testing, I was able to get pretty close to these numbers. The buds are also able to provide you with sound for two hours off a 10-minute charge.

The Indy Evo’s come with ambient mode allowing you to hear the sound around you using the mics. It works great and does exactly what it’s advertised to do. The buds also come with three listening modes, music, movie, and podcast. I was never able to switch between the two but from what I can tell they are specific EQs to make music, movies, and podcasts sound better.

You can pick the buds up right now for AUD$179.99 or if you are in the US you can pick them up for $79.99.

DJI Osmo Action

The DJI Osmo Action brought a few standout features with it, such as its dual screens, screw-on filter system, SteadyRock stabilization, and DJI’s great software and app to go along with it.

The Osmo action is a great camera worth a look at with its features and image quality. The Osmo Action will damage GoPro’s market share and continue to be a great option for anyone that is looking to get an action camera.

The DJI Osmo Action comes with a frame, curved and flat adhesive mounts, quick release plate, a battery, battery case, locking screw, and a USB C cable. The Osmo Action comes in at 65x42x35mm, a 12MP 1/2.3″ CMOS sensor, a bitrate of 100mb/s, 4k 60fps, and 1080p 240fps slow motion.

You can pick up the DJI Osmo Action from the DJI store for $349 (AUD$499), on sale for $299 with various accessories available including an extendable tripod, extra batteries, and a wrist mount.

Fat Shark 101 Drone Racing Kit

The key selling point for the Fat Shark 101 is that its simple to use and a great way for beginners to get into the drone racing world. We can back this claim to a certain degree, for the most part, the Fat Shark 101 is an amazing first timer racing drone with good quality components, a great price, and even some accessories to get you practising for the real races.

Keeping in mind that this is a racing drone, you do not have any of the luxuries that come with drones like the DJI Mavic 2 Pro. The Fat Shark 101 does come with 3 modes to help you along your flying journey. Beginner, intermediate and advanced mode, the latter of which allows for full flips and agile movements to be made.
