DJI’s teaser page on its website and the post shared on Twitter shows what looks to be a square device, which matches closely to the DJI Dock 2 launch in China last year. DJI will unveil the Dock 2 during its ‘Easy Operation, Superior Results’ event on March 26th at 9PM EDT.

DJI Dock 2

DJI Dock 2 features a space efficient and smaller body, is more capable with a drone specifically designed to be operated out of a dock. Dock 2 has an IP55 rating, a maximum operational range of 10km, an environmental monitoring system.

Dock 2’s volume has been reduced by 75% along with a 68% reduction in weight at just 34kg without a drone. Both make it easier for the DJI Dock 2 to be relocated and tested in multiple locations.

DJI Dock 2 features a built-in backup battery providing an additional 5 hours in the event of a power loss or operating in a remote location. DJI has designed the dock to have a six-month maintenance interval, reducing costs and improving uptime.

DJI Matrice 3D

Along with the Dock 2, DJI has released the DJI Matrice 3D and Matrice 3DT. The Matrice 3D series is DJI’s first drone designed specifically to be used with a dock. Matrice 3D/DT have a 50-minute battery life, six-way obstacle avoidance, a maximum operating range of 10km with a battery that’s rated for 400 cycles.

A RTK module is built in to both the drones and has an accuracy of ±3 cm.

Matrice 3D features a wide angle 4/3 CMOS 20MP sensor with a mechanical shutter and a 1/2″ CMOS telephoto 12MP sensor. The Matrice 3DT features a 1/1.32-inch CMOS 48MP sensor, the same 1/2″ CMOS telephoto 12MP sensor, and a 640×512 thermal camera.

If these two payloads sound familiar, it’s because they have been taken from the Mavic 3 Enterprise and Mavic 3 Thermal.

DJI Dock 2 pricing and availability

DJI Dock 2 comes in two variants, a variant with the Matrice 3D starting at ¥69,999 ($9,613.66) and a variant with the Matrice 3DT for ¥77,999 ($10,712.38). With import, tax, and shipping costs these dollar values are expected to be higher once available in other countries.

Dock 2 is currently only available in China but has now officially launched across the globe.
