The Skullcandy Sesh Evo is a pair of fully wireless earbuds with a more traditional form factor. The Sesh Evo’s come in at just $43 or AUD$139. Let’s dive in and take a deep look at the wireless earbuds and see if they should be the next pair for you.
In the package
The Skullcandy Sesh Evo comes with a USB-C charging cable, two extra pairs of small and large earbuds, and the carrying and charging case of course. The headphones closely resemble the Samsung Galaxy Buds.
The important bits
The sound coming from the Sesh Evo is what I expected to see from earbuds at this price point. They sound pretty good for the size, and they block out most of the noise when the volume is above 40%. The bass is a little heavy, with the mids and treble sounding clear.
I find earbuds with this design are much more comfortable as there is no stem tor rub against my cheek or get in the way of things. The much smaller size is also a benefit with the earbuds being light enough to forget they are in from time to time.
The earbuds have a battery life of five hours, with the charging case providing an extra 19 hours of battery. More than enough for a few listening sessions before needing a charge.
Listening features
The Sesh Evo comes with ambient mode allowing you to hear the sound around you using the mics. It works great and does exactly what it’s advertised to do. The buds also come with three listening modes, music, movie, and podcast. I was never able to switch between the three modes, but from what I can tell, they are specific EQs to make music, movies, and podcasts sound better.
USB-C, but no wireless charging
It is great to see the inclusion of USB-C as it is getting annoying buying a product and it to come with Micro-USB., so great job on that one Skullcandy! Something I expect with all wireless earbuds is for the case to be able to wirelessly charge. This is not a big deal but a nice to have instead of having to plug it in to charge all the time. I feel like wireless charging goes perfectly with wireless earbuds due to the small battery size and how fast they can charge.
Find them with Tile
When I first saw the headphones featured Tile in them, I thought it would be one of those gimmicks you try once and never again. When I tried it though, it was impressive. You lose your earbuds, open the Tile app, and walk around until you find it with the help of a guide showing how far away you are.
Two things to note though. The Tile functionality is only in the left earbud so if you do not have the two together good luck finding the right one. To use the finding functionality, you are required to download the Tile app even though there is a Skullcandy app already, this might not be an issue if you already use Tile. It would be great to have it packed all into one app.
Skullcandy app
Many companies introduce companion apps with their products to provide a richer experience with the product. This is something Skullcandy seems to be lacking in with the Sesh Evo. While using the app the only feature that you can use is the ambient mode which can also be activated on the earbuds themselves. The app also tells you what listening mode you are in, but you aren’t able to change it.
I would like to see the listening modes to be changeable within the app and possibly have the Tile integration right in the app so those that don’t use Tile don’t have to download another app. It would also be nice to be able to change the tap settings of the earbuds.
The verdict
The Sesh Evo wireless earbuds are the go-to pair for me if I was looking at purchasing a budget pair from Skullcandy. The earbuds sound good for the price, small enough to easily fit in your pockets, and are comfortable in the ear. I would 100% recommend these to anyone looking for a great pair of wireless earbuds that won’t break the bank like the AirPods of Galaxy Buds.
