Just under a month from release, GoPro HERO 12 has leaked with images, features, and specifications of the action camera. The leak shows GoPro’s next camera will be a smaller update than first thought, more of a generational improvement over the HERO 11 rather than an upgrade.

GoPro HERO 12 specifications

Listed out in the leak is a list of key specs for GoPro HERO 12, they are as follows:

  • Up to 8x slow-mo, 2x zoom
  • HyperSmooth 6.0 with AutoBoost
  • Live streaming in 1080p
  • Frame grab with the GoPro Quik app
  • Large 2.27in rear touch screen with touch to zoom
  • 1.4in front screen for preview

Additionally, a screenshot of a product page sheds some light on more of the camera specs. These have been broken down and are as follows:

  • Waterproof to 10m
  • HDR for video – 5.3K and 4K
  • HDR for photos – 27MP
  • 5.3K video – 91% more resolution than 4K, 665% higher resolution than 1080p
  • Extract images from videos at 24.7MP via GoPro’s Quick App

In the description, which looks to be translated into English, you can expect the following in the box:

  • HERO 12 Black camera
  • Enduro rechargeable battery
  • Curved adhesive mount
  • Mounting clip
  • Wing screw
  • USB-C cable

HERO 12 Black design

Looking at the images we can see a few points of interest. First, one of the images features what looks to be an updated MAX Lens Mod, allowing for an increased field of view while keeping the footage smooth.

The front and rear face and buttons are using a new material, potentially recycled, with specs of GoPro blue throughout the base back colour. HERO 12 features the same built-in mounting system and layout found on HERO 11.

Our thoughts on HERO 12

Based on the leaks, GoPro’s HERO 12 BLACK looks to be a smaller upgrade over the HERO 11 than initially thought. DJI’s Osmo Action series is GoPro’s biggest competition and means the company needs to continuing wowing with every release. These leaks don’t look to wow, let’s hope GoPro has something up it sleeve.
